Chinese polychrome decorated arrow vase depicting 'The 1000 Arrow Legend' from the Chinese classic novel "San Guo" (The Romance of Three Kingdoms) along with open pages from the book curled around the body in relief, square overglaze red enamel Shen de Tang Zhi mark(Hall for the Cultivation of Virtue), 5 5/8" h., Dao Guang. In the story, the hero is given 24 hours to obtain 1000 arrows. He accomplishes the task by taking a boat filled with straw down a river through enemy territory.
